REFUGE OF EVERYDAY LIFE

I take refuge in everyday life

Bowing down to my teachers:
Bowing down to: Day

Bowing down to: Night
May I take on the flesh and bone

raiment of the mind’s avatars:
lying down, sitting, standing, walking

(and crouching). In each,
fully figured, I center myself.

Head slowly unbowed,
may I rise and stand forth,

openly and freely
engaged with the world

As much a part of me
as… the marrow in my bones

and the breath
pulsing through the blood
